Surface Processes Group
Resources for Surface Processes Studies

Computer Resources

The group maintains about a dozen desktop and laptop computers using linux, solaris, mac and various windows operating systems. Major software packages used by the group include Matlab, IDL, Arcview and Arcinfo for GIS studies. Peripheral equipment includes CD burners, printers, scanners, digital cameras and video equipment. High-performance computing is primarily undertaken at DoD Shared Resource Centers using Fortran90 and Fortran95 and MPI for parallel applications.

Major Equipment

Submetrix Series 2000 interferometric swath-bathymetry system
Trimble RTK-GPS: two 4700 receivers for basestation and rover and radio gear
Conventional optical surveying equipment
Sediment grain-size analysis equipment
TSI Particle-image velocimetry system and 7W argon-ion laser
Research canoes, jonboat and access to departmental boats

Laboratory and Office Space

The group has four office/lab rooms in Jordan Hall and a 30 ft by 30 ft laboratory for experimental surface processes studies in the department's Varsity Drive facility.
