Model Used for Simulations

Notes:

The model I use is from SACLANT and is called BoRIS. It calculates the return from a random sea floor from a point source/receiver combination.
I modified the model to introduce the target, for these studies I use an iron sphere since man-made targets will be composed of some metallic alloy and the sphere was chosen as a first order approximation to any target of interest. Normal incidence studies align the sphere and receiver lined up as in this figure. The off-axis studies were done with the sphere off to the side. Since this is a model, I chose to study the system with the target and then without the target. As a result, I could treat the sediment as noise.
